William Hal Golightly

William Hal Golightly. Beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away in his home November 6^th at the age of 97. Born May 13^th 1917 in Logan, UT to Joseph and Mable Golightly. He married his sweetheart Dorothy Burbank December 22^nd 1938 in the Salt Lake Temple, and enjoyed over 75 years of marital bliss. They were hardly ever apart and he tried to keep their bond as long as possible. He lived a life of love and service to his family; caring for everyone along the way.

His service was extended to his country through his time in The Army Air Corps during WWII. He flew 22 missions over Germany as a tail gunner on a B-17. Never one to brag, he was discharged honorably and didn’t speak much of his service.

Hal loved spending time with his family, attending family parties, going on vacations, and taking trips to Bear Lake. The boat he built with his brother was the first place most of our family and friends learned to water-ski. Equal parts teacher and dad, he made sure everyone had a good time at the lake. Always being careful with the people he loved, safety was always on his mind. Nothing bad could happen with him reminding everyone of the potential danger.

Hal was a kind and generous man who let his knowledge and love of people show in his years in retail, winning salesman of the year for Sears. Return customers knew he would go above and beyond to help as much as possible.

Hal was dedicated to his children and was always on call to help them in any situation or circumstance, sacrificing much sometimes.  His children knew he would be there at any time.  No task was too hard or too big for him to take on when needed.  The grandchildren knew grandpa was right there when needed and they were, over the years, able to spend lots of quality time with him.    During Hal and Dorothy’s time in Manila, Utah managing the Vacation Inn, grandkids would come and go and spend time there running around helping and just having fun with the grandparents.  Driving Grandpa’s golf cart around was an especially fun time.  

Hal worked hard his entire life and even near the end was still trying to climb onto the roof to fix the air conditioner.  He was never one to ask for help from others and really liked taking care of others.  He was able to drive himself and Dorothy around to do their errands until a couple of months ago.  It is safe to say that Hal lived as best he could until the very end.  

Survived by his wife of 75 plus years, Dorothy, children Pam (Jym), Hal (Patty), Cindy (Brad), 8 grandchildren, Thalo, Shae, Marcus, Amelia, Spencer, Max, Hal, Chris, and 7 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents and siblings.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Valley Ridge Ward Chapel, 5823 S. 4800 W., Kearns, Utah.  Friends may call Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the church and Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. also at the church.  Interment will be in the Preston, Idaho Cemetery.  Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.webbmortuary.com
