PROVO, UTAH - - - WES BECKSTEAD
Wesley Alexander Beckstead, 27, passed away June 9, 2011 in Provo, Utah. He was born September 6, 1983 in Preston, Idaho to Dr. David B. and Alexis Beckstead, the second of six children, and raised in the same town. In his youth Wes was active in athletes, music, and scouting. He earned his Eagle award early and received three palms. He spent his summers working on his grandfather's farm. While he was on the high school cross-country and varsity basketball teams, they both won state. He also received many awards for academic scholarship his senior year and placed in the Bennett Cup competition.
Wes enjoyed playing pick-up games of basketball and volleyball. He would go snowmobiling and snowboarding whenever he had the chance. However, Wes's favorite pastime was playing superheroes with his son.
Wes served a two-year mission to Ghana, Africa where he is still remembered for his numerous successes. Not long after his return, Wesley married his high school sweetheart, Jennie Parker, in the Logan Temple May 6, 2005. They finished up their education at BYU, graduating April 2007-Jennie in Education, Wes in Bioinformatics. Their son, Parker Wesley, was born on Sept. 5, 2007. They lived in Boston for a year and then Maryland for a year to further their education. Wes received a master's degree from Boston University. He did cancer research at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. We loved doing research and was dedicated to his job.
Their home has been in Provo for the past two years. Wesley had a powerful and enduring love for his beautiful wife and adorable son, and appreciated being near his supportive family. Wes was fun-loving, charming, and brilliant. We bravely faced the challenges in his life. He is to be admired and remembered.
He is survived by his wife, Jennie, his son, Parker, his parents, David and Alexis, and siblings-David (Megan), Laura Beardall, Russell, Bradley, and Karrie-his grandparents, Dr. David W. and Pauline Beckstead of Preston.
A private memorial service will be held June 18, 2011, 11 a.m. at the Whitney Church for family and close friends with no viewing. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.webbmortuary.com
