Preston, Idaho - - - - Webster Cooper Maughan
Preston - Our beloved father, husband, grandfather, and great grandfather, Webster Cooper Maughan passed away on June 27, 2010 at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo, Utah of natural causes. Webster was born to David Lloyd Maughan and Sarah Ann Spence Cooper of Wellsville, Utah on August 15, 1921. He graduated from South Cache High School in 1939 and from Utah State Agriculture College 1n 1944. Webster enjoyed participating in all sports throughout his youth. He served in the ROTC Program during his junior and senior year at Utah State until he received his call to active duty in 1942. During World War II, he served four years with the 101st Airborne division. He received the Purple Heart for wounds received at Bastogne, Belgium. Webster served in the Army Reserve for twenty years and retired at the rank of Major. He was proud of his military service and loved his country.
Webster married Connie Mae Talbot on June 21, 1946 in the Logan LDS Temple. During their early years of marriage, they lived in Wellsville, Utah and in the Fort Hall Indian Reservation, Idaho. In 1957 they moved to Preston, Idaho, where they made their home for the next fifty years. In their later years, Web and Connie lived with their two daughters in Springville and Lehi, Utah. Webster embraced the gospel of hard work and always had more than one job. He spent twenty years in civil service, twenty years in the military, fifteen years in dry farming, and he was a partner of Pop 'n Pin Lanes bowling for fifteen years. Additionally, he purchased Connie's family farm where he taught his children how to work. He loved farming and could be found working on the dry farm, the Talbot farm or in his employment with the Farmers Home Administration.
Webster was very influential in the Preston community. He managed the Ireland Bank, was a member of the Rotary, served on various community projects, and held numerous leadership positions in the LDS Church. He was tireless in his service to his fellowmen.
Webster had a great love for the gospel of Jesus Christ and his Heavenly Father. He and Connie served faithfully as missionaries in the Washington DC North Mission. He was an example to all who knew him. His greatest example was displayed in his love for his wife of 64 years and their children.
As children, we will miss dad's patriarchal command, his love of God's creations, his wise counsel and his optimistic outlook on life. Dad led an exemplary life as a husband and father in the way he treated and cared for others. He lived his life in semblance to the Savior.
Webster is preceded in death by his wife, Connie, his parents, brother, Howard C. Maughan (Venice), Lee C. Maughan (Clara), Ila Ree Wright (La Mar) Lowell C Maughan (Carma).
