Preston - Wallace Ervin Read, 81, of Preston, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2010. Wally was born in Smithfield, Utah on November 16, 1928 to Ervin Henry and Donna Merrill Read. He grew up on the family farm in Trenton, Utah and went to North Cache High School. While at North Cache he met the love of his life, Pauline Larsen. They eloped and got married in Elko, Nevada. About a year later, they were married and sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan temple.
He was a successful farm and heavy equipment salesman beginning with Peterson Tractor in Logan, Utah and eventually retiring from Western Equipment in 1991 after 30 years of selling Caterpillar equipment.
He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and always had a firm belief in the Gospel. He particularly enjoyed performing his home teacher callings.
Wally is survived by his wife, Pauline, of 63 years, his daughter Vickie (Ron Truitt) of Scottsdale, Arizona; son Paul (Tammy) of Elko, Nevada; 4 grandchildren, Audre Wilde, Casey (Shelly) Wilde, Nicole (Mike) Grubbs and Jesse Read, and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 16, 2010 at 11:00 am at Webb Funeral Home's new location 1005 South 800 East in Preston. A viewing will be held Thursday, April 15, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Webb Funeral Home and again prior to the funeral, from 10:00 to 10:45 am. Interment will take place at the Smithfield City Cemetery immediately following the services. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.webbmortuary.com.
