RICHMOND, UTAH WADE CHRISTENSEN
RICHMOND - Wade Leonard Christensen passed away peacefully at his home April 3, 2012 at the age of 90. He was born June 15, 1921 to Leonard and Alta Nilson Christensen in Richmond, Utah. He was the oldest of four children. He graduated from North Cache High School in 1947.
He married Christenca Ann (Tess) Carlson November 17, 1950 in Nevada, a union later solemnized in the Logan Temple. He was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who enjoyed reading the scriptures printed in the German language. He developed a love for Germany while serving during World War II in Europe. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps in 1942 and worked as an aircraft mechanic. He also witnessed many of the war's battles as an infantryman in the densely forested region of southern Bavaria. After the war, Wade remained in Germany and was assigned to run the power generator that provided electricity for the famous Nuremberg War Crimes Trial.
From an early age, Wade loved machinery. He had a well respected ability to design, build, and use machinery of all kinds. Some of his favorites were Mack Trucks and D7 Caterpillars. A long-time logger/sawmill operator, Wade built two portable sawmills that he used to cut timber for many of the homes, farms, fences, and barns in northern Utah and southern Idaho. He was also instrumental in helping his son Zan create and operate Christensen Construction Company.
Wade was preceded in death by his parents; brother Garr Dee and sister Alta Glade; along with two sons, Victor Wade and Zan L.; and a great-grandson Jayden Christensen.
He is survived by his wife, Tess and daughter, Wendy of Richmond; a sister Phyllis (Robert) Unice of Orem; a daughter-in-law, Dena Christensen of Cove; along with six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to express its gratitude to the nurses and aides with Intermountain Hospice and to the many family and friends who have expressed their love and support.
