Vilma Teresa Castillo

November 10, 1949 — March 26, 2015

Vilma Teresa Castillo

Vilma B. Castillo, loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at her home in Franklin, ID, on March 26, 2015, surrounded by her eternal companion, her children, and family, after a valiant battle with cancer.  She was born Nov. 10, 1949, in Laredo, Texas to Miguel Angel and Petra Garza Rocha Buruato.  Family was her focus and passion.   She loved celebrating holidays and birthdays with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, often surprising them with heartfelt gifts.  She loved traveling to her home in Texas to visit her family whom she remained very close to.

Vilma met the love of her life, Val, 46 years ago at a dance in Brigham City, UT.  She often told the story of how they met, and how after he asked her to dance, he held onto her hand so that no one else could dance with her.  They were married and sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple, and made their home in Franklin, ID.  They remain forever sweethearts.

Vilma loved supporting her children and grandchildren in their activities and took great pride in their accomplishments.   One of her biggest passions was to encourage her children to love and participate in the arts community.  She, along with her husband, contributed time and means to support several organizations, including Cache Valley Civic Ballet, Dance West, Utah Festival Opera and Opera Idaho.

She served in the Relief Society Presidency of the Franklin Stake LDS Spanish Branch for many years and had a strong influence on those she served.   Her testimony and faith gave her strength and courage to return to our Father in Heaven.

Vilma had many friends whom she loved very dearly, including co-workers and their families at Ritewood Eggs in Franklin.  Her pleasing smile and loving nature made it easy to become her friend.  She will be greatly missed by many.

She is survived by her husband, Valdemar Castillo Jr. of Franklin; one daughter and three sons, Vannessa Aimee (Perry) Holton of Franklin; Valdemar B. (Olga) Castillo III of Eden, Utah; Victor Orlando Castillo of Salt Lake City, Utah; Vincent Edward (Charity) Castillo of Franklin; thirteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and five brothers and four sisters, Sergio Buruato, Miguel Angel (Marta) Buruato, Corando (Thelma) Buruato, Thelma (Jose R.) Bravo, Leticia (Eliseo) Rosas, Ramiro (Irma) Buruato, Petra (Juan) Benavides, Ismael (Irma) Buruato, and Sylvia Buruato all of Laredo, Texas.  She was preceded in death by her parents and by two brothers, Lauro & Ramon Buruato.
