Fairview, Idaho - - - Verna H. Knudsen
Fairview - Verna hall Knudsen passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2009 at the Franklin County Medical Center at the age of 97. She was born April 21, 1912 in Fairview, Idaho to Thomas John and Harriet Bodily Hall. She was the third of 10 children. She attended grad school in Fairview, and later attended the Oneida Academy in Preston. She married Delbert C. Knudsen on April 1, 1931 in Randolph, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.
She was a member of the Fairview LDS Ward and served in many callings in the various organizations throughout her life. Verna was a life-long resident of Fairview where she and Deb raised a large family, a large garden and farmed together for much of their 70 years of marriage. Verna enjoyed working out in her garden and flower beds and seemed to have a green thumb. She took great pleasure in keeping her home and yard looking neat, orderly, and beautiful. She also enjoyed cooking, and was a very good cook. Her pies and rolls were especially delicious. Her hobbies included embroidering, knitting, crocheting, and quilting. She has made many quilts, afghans, and pillow cases for her children and grandchildren over the years.
Verna is survived by her four daughters and three sons, Patricia (Ed) Maughan, of Pocatello, ID; Tony (Lucynthia) Knudsen, of Albuquerque, NM; Neil (Linda) Knudsen, of Idaho Falls, ID; Ranee "Kate" (Max) Palmer, of Sugar City, ID; Scott (Patricia) Knudsen, of Malta, ID; Suzanne (Paul) Carver of Soda Springs, Idaho; and Peggy (Glade) Moser, of Preston, ID; 40 grandchildren (two deceased) and 103 great grandchildren (two deceased) and 16 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister Mardene Hall of Fairview and two brothers Herman Hall of Arizona and Grant Hall of Boise, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Delbert on February 16, 2001; a son Delbert hall; a daughter-in-law Ann Knudsen, two grandsons Jerry Maughan and Carter Knudsen, two great granddaughters Kelsie Munns, and Kendra Berrier; four brothers Dallas, Hershel, Dennis, and Byron Hall, and two sisters Dorothy Gilbert and Oneta Hyde.
Verna spent the last four years at the Heritage Home in Preston. A special thanks to the staff there and also Dr. Beckstead and the staff at the Franklin County Medical Center and Nursing Home for their loving care in recent years. Verna cherished her family. Her children, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren were her greatest joy.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 12:00 noon in the Fairview 1st Ward LDS chapel with Bishop Howard D. Nelson conducting. Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Fairview church 91 West 4800 South in Preston and Thursday from 10-11:30 a.m. also at the church. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery.
