DAYTON, IDAHO VERLA JENSEN
DAYTON- Verla Anne Jensen, 76, passed away on Dec. 1, 2011. She was born Aug. 24, 1935, in Fairview, Idaho, the youngest of eight children to Albert Vernon and Alvaretta Talbot. She married Jerry Lee Jensen on July 31, 1952 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Because Jerry served in the Marines, their early life took them to Oceanside, California. They returned to Dayton and purchased a Roto-Rooter franchise in Pocatello, Idaho. Roto-Rooter took them to San Jose, California and then Merced, California. While in Merced, Verla served in the Primary and in Scouting. She loved children and served them well as she shared her great love of the gospel. In 1980, they sold Roto-Rooter and returned to the mountains of Idaho that they missed and loved.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and cheerfully served in many callings. In August of 2000, she and Jerry served a family history mission in the Independence, Missouri Mission. She was a great storyteller and she enjoyed reading and shared her love of books with her children and many others. She was also very talented on the sewing machine.
She is survived by nine of her ten children: Albert Jensen of Dayton; Mark (Vickie) Jensen of Bruneau, Idaho; Cynthia (Lynn) Tanner of Merced, Calif; Anne Jensen of Merced, Calif; Jean Jensen of Dayton; William (LeAnn) Jensen of Delhi, Calif; Rosalie (Gary) McGuire of Sandy, Utah; Vernon Jensen of Preston, Idaho; Christel (Mark) Evans of Blackfoot, Idaho; twenty-six grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren and by her sister, Martha (Dave) Johnson of Preston. She was preceded in death by her son, Jess Robert Jensen and by a granddaughter, Tara Kendra.
