Velna Hendrickson Swann

Velna Hendrickson Swann, 83, passed away on Sept. 12, 2014 at the Franklin County Transitional Care Center in Preston, Idaho.  She was born May 7, 1931, in Drummond, Idaho the first child and only daughter of F. Leroy and Pearl Covert Hendrickson.  When Velna was six years old, the family moved to Cleveland, Idaho.  She attended school in Cleveland and graduated from the eighth grade in 1945.  She attended Grace High School for two years.  The family then moved to Preston and she attended Preston High School.

Velna met Aldin Swann in the summer of 1946.  They were married in the Logan LDS Temple on June 2, 1948.  They are the parents of five daughters.

Velna and Al enjoyed square dancing.  They attended the Knothead Jamboree at Old Faithful and in West Yellowstone for many years.  She enjoyed nature and going camping with her family.  She also enjoyed rides in the canyon to see the fall colors and watching sunsets and rainbows.  Velna also made quilts and then held “quilt-pickin” parties for her children and grandchildren.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She served in the Primary, Young Women and Relief Society organizations.  She also did genealogy work and for the past 27 years served in the extraction/indexing program.  She also enjoyed attending the temple.

Velna was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, by a brother, Ralph Hendrickson; by a son-in-law, Jeff Allred and by one grandson.  She is survived by her daughters:  Vicki Swann of Pocatello, Idaho; Barbara (Reed) Snyder of Preston; Dorthea (Peter) Lawson of Superior, Wisconsin; Mary Ellen Allred of Preston; and Kaylene (Mark W.) Owen of Preston; by seventeen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren; by a a brother, F. Lee (Maurine) Hendrickson of Preston; by two sisters-in-law, Virginia Hendrickson of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Gwen Swann of Jerome, Idaho; and by a brother-in-law, Wayne Swann of Preston.

We wish to thank Dr. David Beckstead and staff, the staff at the Franklin County Medical Center and FCMC Hospice and the staff at the Franklin County Transitional Care Center for the loving care they extended to Mother.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Preston North Stake Center, 310 N. State, Preston, Idaho with Bishop Craig Thomas conducting.  Friends may call Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East, Preston and Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the stake center.  Interment will be in the Preston Cemetery.  Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.webbmortuary.com
