Val Layne Buttars, 83, passed away from natural causes on Sept. 15, 2014, and spent his last days surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born Sept. 27, 1930, in Lewiston, Utah to Orson Morris and Elva Layne Buttars.
He spent his early days on the farm in Lewiston and later joined the Armed Forces being honorably discharged. On March 7, 1955, he married the love of his life, Etta Mae Carpenter. With this marriage she brought two children and later they were blessed with two boys and three girls.
Val worked in road construction for Parson’s for 35 years retiring in 1992. He loved going fishing and camping and having cook outs with his family. He had a love for country music and loved dancing with his beautiful wife of 59 years. One of his most favorite songs was from Charlie Rich “Did You Happen To See The Most Beautiful Girl In The World- Tell Her I Love Her”.
He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and he will be gratefully missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, by three brothers, by two sons, Terry & Todd; and by a son-in-law, Barry Sohn. He is survived by his wife, Etta Mae Buttars ; by his children, David (Sheryal) Nelson; Kathy (Steve) Nelson; Kathy (Steve) Andrew; Alana Buttars; Denise Sohn (Wayne); Julie (Jeff) Olsen, Joyce Buttars; and by 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in the Preston South Stake Center, 55 E. 1st S., Preston, Idaho. Friends may call Saturday from 9-10:30 a.m. at the stake center. Interment will be in the Preston Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.webbmortuary.com
