Idaho Falls - Tharol George Porter, 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was born on March 11, 1927 in Mapleton, Idaho to George Riley and Laverna Carter Wanner Porter. Tharol grew up in Mapleton and graduated from Franklin High School in 1945. He married Mae Gregory on May 25, 1949 in the Logan LDS Temple.

Tharol was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in various positions including Ward Clerk, magazine representative, librarian, Logan Temple Baptistry, and as a home teacher. He loved gardening and enjoyed sports especially BYU and the Colorado Rockies baseball. Tharol was also an avid reader. He loved time spent with his family.

He is survived by his children Shauna (Con) Decker, of Rigby, ID; Roxann (Carl) Owen, of Iona, ID; Rick (Brenda) Porter, of Farmington, UT; and Stan (Carol) Porter, of Evanston, WY; 17 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and six step-great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers Rey (Karen) Porter, Rhoud (Susan) Porter, and four sisters Ivalue Johnson, Georgia (Richard) Baker, Joen May, and Seles (Frank) Price. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mae, a son Dennis, a grandson Jerry Hodges, and five brothers Floyd, Ira, Mark, Arlo, Marlin, and Lanny, as well as two sisters Coradean, and Saramae.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East, in Preston, Idaho with Bishop Boyd Southwick conducting. A viewing will be held on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. also at Webb Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Preston Cemetery.
