Ted Earl Steers

Ted Earl Steers, 84, peacefully exited his earthly home on Feb. 7, 2014, from Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, with his family around him and returned to his Father in Heaven. He was born July 11, 1929, in Preston, Idaho to Earl Hall Steers and Goldie Frances Hansen. He was raised in Preston and graduated from Preston High School. He attended USU, the Bank of America Bookkeeping School in San Francisco and the Pacific Coast Banking School at the Univ. of Washington in Seattle. He worked for and managed First Security Bank in Preston for 24 years. He then was Sr. Vice President for Tracy-Collins Bank in Salt Lake City for 21 years until he and the bank were sold to US Bank. He retired from US Bank after a total of 45 years in banking. While at Tracy-Collins Bank he organized and supervised their growth from 3 to 27 branches plus the Tracy Mortgage Co. He also owned a mink rank in Franklin for over 18 years which he operated with the help of his wife, Gerrie.

He married Geraldine Lowe of Franklin in the Logan Temple in 1948. They were married 57 years and had two daughters, Dixie and Shellie. Gerrie preceded him in death in 2004 and then he moved back to Preston in accordance with their original retirement plan. In 2006, he married Marcene Robinson Garrett, a former acquaintance and friend, in Preston where he happily lived the remainder of his life.

He was very active in community affairs with the Preston Chamber of Commerce, with golf course development, as Chairman of Eastside Class A School District, as President of the Preston Rotary Club, as Chairman of the March of Dimes for many years (during the polio epidemic) as well as Treasurer of the Village of Franklin. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving as a teacher, a scout executive, in seven bishoprics, as stake auditor for 12 years, as an officiator in the Salt Lake Temple for 10 years and in the Bountiful Temple (1 year) and Logan Temple (2 years). He was active in support of all sports, particularly Preston High activities and he attended almost all of the games with his wife, Marcene, until his health curtailed such participation.

He is survived by his wife, Marcene of Preston; his daughters; Dixie (Don) Suite of Midvale, Utah; Shellie (Tony) Rusho of Cedar Park, Texas; ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Jackie Luckey of San Diego, Calif; two brothers, Norman Petterborg of Mesa, Arizona; Rex (Pam) Petterborg of Mesa, Arizona; and by a daughter-in-law, Jan Garrett of Preston. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gerrie, by his parents and by a son-in-law, Craig Garrett.

Graveside dedication will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. in the Preston Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday from 11:30 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East, Preston. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.webbmortuary.com
