Clifton, Idaho - - - Sylvia I. Murdock
Clifton - Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Sylvia Irene McDowell Murdock passed away at home on March 11, 2012 after a long illness. Sylvia was born in Walla Walla, Washington on November 10, 1937 to George and Sylvia McDowell. She attended BYU. One fateful summer while she was home from school, Sylvia met her one true love, a young missionary, Alve N. Murdock. She continued her schooling at BYU while Alve finished serving his mission. They were sealed in the Logan Temple on June 20, 1958. They were blessed with 10 children. Sylvia lived faithfully the gospel she loved. She was a shining example to her large family, always putting their needs before her own. She served in many church callings including Relief Society President in several wards. Her last calling was as a primary teacher, a calling she loved and would have considered her most important. She loved the girls she taught very much. She has resided in her Clifton home since 1975. She served a Temple Mission with Alve in the Aba Nigeria Temple. She also served in the Logan Temple for eight years. Besides serving her family, her service in the Temple was a great joy in her life.
Sylvia loved to read. She sang beautifully until her voice was weakened by her illness. She spent many fun filled summers taking the grandkids, ages 4-12 on "cousins camps." She and Alve hosted many family parties at the "Murdock Estate" including many family camps. She enjoyed her time in the kitchen cooking for her large and growing family. She was truly the bond that held the family together. Her strength, compassion, humility, and testimony has touched the lives of all who knew her and called her Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Sister, and Friend.
She is survived by her husband, Alve, of Clifton, ID; sons Marion (Liane) Murdock, of Buhl, ID; Andy (Teresa) Murdock, of Wendall, ID; Mikal (Angela) Murdock, of Franklin, ID; Samuel (Julie) Murdock, of Smithfield, UT; Benjamin (Chastity) Murdock, of Wendall, ID; Marcus (Jahazza) Murdock, of Nampa, ID; and Matthew (Debbie) Murdock, of West Valley City, UT; her daughters Sally (Layne) Keele, of Dayton, ID; Sophie Murdock, of Boise, ID; 32 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
