Stanley Keith Norton, 70, returned to his heavenly home on Saturday July 27, 2024. Stan was born on February 25, 1954, in Preston, Idaho to his loving parents Max Loris Norton and Camilla Price Norton. As a young man, Stan excelled academically and was awarded all-around athlete at Preston High School. His kind heart and charming good looks got him voted as “Most Preferred” in his high school years. He served honorably as a missionary in the Albuquerque, New Mexico mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Stan graduated from Utah State University and spent most of his career as a trust officer with various banks where he loved helping every person he met. Stan said the smartest thing he ever did was choose to marry Joan Breinholt in the Salt Lake Temple on July 7, 1977. He was a loving father who was always engaged in the lives of his children and grandchildren. Some of his family’s fondest memories include Stan doing dance parties with his grandkids and playing endless games of Yahtzee.
He served in several capacities within the church, including time as Bishop of the Clinton 11th Ward and inspired many young men in his years of service in young men’s and scouting. Stan served on the Scouting for Food board for many years. He always made a special effort to serve the poor and needy. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he organized his own community food drive. He was also an active member of Rotary Club and served as a board member for many other community organizations. With his favorite companion, Stan served a second mission in the Bentonville, Arkansas mission. Stan’s favorite saying was, “Glad you got to see me, makes me happy every time you do.”
Stan is survived by his wife, Joan Breinholt Norton; by two sons and three daughters, Chad (Katie) Norton, Zachary (Jami) Norton, Amber (Justin) Wilkey, Heidi (Austin) Ulrich, and Whitney (Jason) King; by 21 grandchildren; by two brothers and two sisters, William (Geri) Norton, Steve (Kathy) Norton, Beverly (Randy) Smith, and Bonnie (Lyle) Stucki. Stan is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Catherine (Nick) Sommers, Paul (Sharon) Norton, his father and mother-in-law, D. Verle and C. Gladys Breinholt, and brother-in-law Reb Breinholt.
