Preston - Spencer Cleveland Crookston Jr., 91, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2014 at the Heritage Home in Preston, Idaho. Born the second child of 7 children to Spencer Cleveland and Josephine Reeder Crookston in Logan, Utah but he spent most of his childhood in Dayton, Idaho. He married Elsa McQueen on Jan 9, 1948 in the Logan Utah Temple.

He graduated from West Side High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army in Rome during World War II. He was awarded the bronze Star for his service there. He also served for 13 years in the first National Guard unit formed in Preston. He retired from Utah Power And Light, where worked for 37 years. Spencer is a High Priest in the Preston Fourth Ward. He was Ward clerk for two Bishops and served as Stake financial clerk for 17 years under three different Stake Presidencies. He enjoyed being a ham radio specialist and also worked in the family history extraction program.

Spencer loves the mountains and canyons.. He enjoyed hunting, camping, and vacationing with his family. Gardening, building projects with wood, dutch-oven cooking and helping any of his children or anyone he saw that had a need. Spencer and Elsa lived in Preston all their married life, where they raised their six children. He is survived by his children, Nicholas (Geraldine) Crookston of Chubbuck, Idaho, Larry Crookston of Honolulu, Hawaii; Leah Ann Whiting of Nampa, Idaho; Janet (Doug) Profaizer of Hyde Park UT; Eliza(Carter) Talbot of Logan UT; and Steve (Mary Sue) Crookston of , Preston Idaho. They have19 Grandchildren, and 41 Great Grandchildren with one on the way. He is also survived by two sisters, Carol McNiel, of California; and Edith Helmendollar, of Pocatello, ID; and Reed (Barbara) Crookston Kerns UT. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Elsa and siblings Enid Foster, Jean Balls, and Josephine Olsen.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 31, 2014 at 12:00 noon in the Preston North Stake Center, 310 N. State, Preston, Idaho. Friends may call Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 8th East, Preston and Friday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the stake center.
