Ruth Morris Bingham, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend left this earthly life to return to her beloved Savior Jesus Christ on October 5, 2016. She was born during a cloud burst in Riddyville, a hollow above McCammon, Idaho on July 5, 1925, the adored youngest of 12 children to Joseph Stephen and Alice Elvira Green Morris. Ruth attended a two-room school – with favorite cousins Esther and Vic as teachers – prior to enrolling at McCammon High School, where she graduated in 1943. Joys of her childhood included playing with dolls and riding horses while surrounded by loving cousins and friends who remained dear to her throughout her life.
Following graduation she moved to Salt Lake City, where during World War II she worked for the Naval Supply Depot driving a fork lift and later in sales at Singer Sewing Machines and Auerbach’s Department Store. She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ruth served in the Eastern States mission with assignments in Schenectady, Troy, and Niagara Falls, New York. Following her mission she attended Brigham Young University where she was courted by the love of her life, Fred Bingham, former missionary companion of her brother Bob. They were married in the Logan Temple on September 1, 1950. Fred and Ruth made their home in Linrose, Idaho where they were blessed with seven children.
Ruth was a lifelong student of the gospel whether sharing tenets with her children, preparing a lesson, or studying with her treasured companion. Her home abounded in love and generosity – no one left her table without being filled. She graciously fulfilled her role as a farmer’s wife, keeping many a meal warm while supporting Fred in his work. Fred and Ruth’s 19 years as officiators in the Logan Temple bookended their calling and service in the Canada Halifax Mission. Ruth recognized that the challenges of aging were part of this earthly life, and the difficulties in her later years were met with patience, grace, and acceptance.
Ruth is survived by Fred, her loving husband of 66 years, children Julie (Al) Shiffler, Rexburg, Idaho; Ann Bingham, Cold Springs, Nevada; Lorraine (Royce) Christensen, Mink Creek, Idaho; Barry (Deon) Bingham, Smithfield, Utah; Carol (Bill) Wrigley, Smithfield, Utah; Stephen (Shanna) Bingham, Kearns, Utah; and Layne (Carol) Bingham, Orem, Utah, 32 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. The family extends a special thank you to the angels at Sunrise Park Assisted Living and Access Hospice for their tender and loving care.
