Preston, Idaho R. Drusilla AmesPreston - Ruby Drusilla Hillman Ames, 95, passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at the Heritage Home in Preston, Idaho. She was born June 10, 1913 in the family home at Red Rock Ranch in Swan Lake, Idaho to Ira King and Ruby Fay Cutler Hillman. The family homestead was quite isolated and she didn't start school until she was nine years old in Swan Lake where she rode a horse to school. She also attended schools in Inkom and Downey, graduating from Clifton High School in 1934. She married Nels Owen Ames on May 28, 1934 and after their marriage they lived in Oxford and Cleveland and then moved to Preston. In 1957 they rented the Hillman Ranch in Oxford and lived there until 1960 when they moved back to Preston where they purchased their home. She had worked at J.C. Penney's until they closed their doors in 1975. Drusilla and Owen managed Owen's Caf for ten years and then went to work at O.P. Skaggs retiring just before her 80th birthday. She was a member of the LDS Church and enjoyed working with the YWMIA as a counselor and a secretary. She was a visiting teacher for many years. Drusilla was a member of the Atalicoa DUP Camp. She was proud of her ancestral pioneers and took much interest in them. She especially enjoyed her two trips to Nauvoo to visit the area in which they had lived. She was never sitting idle, always having a piece of crocheting in her lap. She made bedspreads, tablecloths, doilies, and an afghan for each of her grandchildren until she could no longer see to do them. She is survived by her children, Thedora A. (Dee) Petterborg, Preston, ID; Dennis H. Ames, Wendell, ID; and Dwight C. (Lorene) Ames, Pocatello, ID; six grandchildren, Cindy Wilson, Jan harris, Terry Petterborg, Roderick Ames, Sandra Tondini, Phil Petterborg, 24 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law Verda Hillman Moore, of Boise, ID. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Nellie Hillman, Mary Sperry, and Gladys Richins, and four brothers LeRoy, Frank, Theodore, and Casper Hillman. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Preston 5th Ward Chapel, 213 South 2nd East, in Preston with Bishop Trent Alder conducting. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the church and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 also at the church. Condolences and memories may be sent to the family at www.webbmortuary.com.
