Preston, Idaho - - - Ross S. Rasmussen
"Old Bankers Never Die, They Just Lose Interest"
Preston - Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Ross Swainston Rasmussen died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on August 28, 2009. A native of Preston, Idaho Ross was born on October 24, 1927 and raised by his mother Sophia Swainston Hansen and his maternal Grandfather Heber Swainston. He graduated from Preston High School with the great class of '45, was drafted in to the US Army shortly thereafter, and attended both BYU and Utah State University upon his return.
He married his eternal companion June D. Whitehead on November 9, 1951 in the Logan LDS Temple. Ross worked 28 years from 1957-1985 for First Security Bank, and later was associated with Ireland Bank and Downey State Bank following his retirement. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as Bishop, High Councilor, and home teacher. He was also a past president and member of the Rotary Club for 28 years.
Ross possessed a great sense of humor which friends and family loved dearly. He enjoyed golf, and as Preston Country Club Champion for many years he was known as the man to beat! He also enjoyed hunting, 4-wheeling, Louis L'amour books, playing card games and spending time with family and friends. One of his favorite past-times was cracking jokes and giggling with his grandchildren. He was also very meticulous about anything he owned, making most things seemingly last forever in mint condition in spite of the teasing he endured.
He is survived by his loving wife, June, and his three children Scott (Pat) Rasmussen, of Pocatello, ID; Stacie (Eric) Falk, of Millville, UT; Cortney (Dana) Rasmussen, of Prather CA; 13 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren, one sister Ruth (Dean) Reed, Eugene, OR; and many nieces and nephews. Ross was preceded in death by mother and step-father Sophia and Arnold Hansen.
