Roma Noreen Smith

July 8, 1931 — December 6, 2014

Roma Noreen Smith

Our dearest mother went peacefully to heaven on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at the Heritage Home in Preston, Idaho.  She leaves behind a legacy of love, work and family togetherness which permeates our family and continues to be instilled in the upcoming generations.

Roma Noreen Taylor was born July 8, 1931 in Winder, Idaho, the daughter of James Caldwell Taylor and Vivian Hollingsworth Taylor.  She was the youngest of 5 children.

She married Glenn Preece Smith on July 1, 1949 in the Logan LDS Temple.  They met at the Persianna and danced their way through life together.  She greatly missed our dad after his sudden death and we know they are now dancing through heaven together.

Our mother has a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and actively served in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She was diligent and faithful in every assignment. Her favorite calling was with Glenn as Stake Dance Directors.  She also served in the presidencies of both Primary and Relief Society, was a Golden Gleaner, and greatly enjoyed doing extraction for many years.

Our mother was a wonderful homemaker.  She taught us to work and filled our home with love and lots of good food.  It was not unusual to come home from school to freshly made cinnamon rolls with the chocolate chips her children loved although raisins would always have been her choice.

After a move back to Preston, Roma helped her father as the custodian of the Franklin County Courthouse, eventually taking over the job.  This job was another tool she used to teach her children and grandchildren the value of work and the importance of doing exactly what was required.

We are grateful for our mom’s long life.  She had many health issues in her later years and we were continually surprised and blessed to have her with us.  She always was a part of every family activity.

We love you, Mom, and thank you for your wonderful example of love and service.  May we be diligent in doing those things that make it possible for us to be with you and Dad in the eternities.

Roma is survived by six adoring children, NorRene (Nelson) Hatch, North Logan, LuCinda (Randy) Harris, Preston, Michael (Julie) Smith, Preston, Dixie (Rex) Kendall, Oxford, Artus (Jim) Amundson, Hyde Park, RJ (Holly) Smith, Smithfield, and the lights of her life, 21 grandchildren and 34.5 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, James Calvin Taylor, Salt Lake City, and one sister, Inez Prather, Ogden. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents, one sister and one brother.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. in the Preston North Stake Center, 310 N.
