Dearest Dad:
To die at age sixty-four would seem premature, perhaps, for most. But those who knew you, recognize you managed to squeeze at least 100 years of life into 64 short years. Whether chasing the mob through the streets of Curacao, playing drums in the bars of Southeastern Idaho, stealing silver ingots back from thieves who stole them from you, or building a power plant with your bare hands " you've lived a series of Hollywood screenplays most people wouldn't believe.
For you, though, all of your adventures were just "noise to distract from what matters." Loving mom, sharing your time with us kids, always being there to talk to, caring for those who needed friendship, and above all, showing kindness to everyone " these were your hallmark traits, and that is how you'll be remembered. Even as you grew too weak to talk, you still somehow managed to end each phrase with a gasp of "please" or "thank you."
Dad, because of you we know life does not begin at birth, nor does it end with death. As the prophet Alma wrote, "Behold, it has been made known unto me ... that the spirits of all men, as soon as they are departed from this mortal body, ... are taken home to that God who gave them life. ... The spirits of those who are righteous are received into a state of happiness, which is called paradise, a state of rest, a state of peace." Without a doubt you have been a righteous son and have been received by your Father in paradise. Sweetest dad, rest well at home knowing you have "fought a good fight, finished your course, and have kept the faith."
With love overflowing,
Your little ones: Joanna (Robert) Mantz, Caroline (Steven) Hawkes, John "Jake" Cannon Fackrell, and Andrew (Tia) Fackrell
