Richard Hill Owen

Richard Hill Owen passed away July 4, 2023, at his home in Preston, Franklin, Idaho at the age of 74. He was born at the family home to Milton Herbert and Marie Hill Owen on March 24, 1949, near Preston, Franklin, Idaho.

Richard learned early on about hard work on the family farm. He attended grades 1-8th in Whitney, and then attended Preston High School until his junior year.

Richard had many occupations. He was a truck driver, he worked at a hardware store, he worked at an auto parts store, but he is best known for his craftmanship. He was a skilled woodworker and a talented tile setter.

Richard loved being in the outdoors spending a great deal of his time in the garden, and in the mountains enjoying wildflowers, huckleberries, and the western sunsets. He shared his harvests and inspirations through zesty salsas, sweet huckleberry jams and nobody will forget his dried pepper blends that added that special spice of life to anything on your plate.

Richard is survived by his four children; Amber Hanson and Hollie Shaw, both of Pocatello, Idaho, Ted Owen, Preston, Idaho, and Tad Owen, Lewiston, Utah. His sisters; Jeanette Christensen, Preston, Idaho, and Nancy Higgs, Amarillo, Texas. His brothers; Stephen Milton Owen (Marlene) and T. Mark Owen (FayeLynn) both of Preston, Idaho. He is also survived by his grandchildren, and many nieces (even some great-nieces) and nephews that will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister; Elizabeth Owen Anderton, and brother; Lyle Herbert Owen.

Out of respect for Richard’s last wishes, there will not be a funeral. However, a memorial service will be held in his honor at a later date.
