Rhoda Cahoon Sparrow

Rhoda Cahoon Sparrow, 92, passed away September 14, 2015 at the Logan Regional Hospital from natural causes. Rhoda was born June 1, 1923 in Garland, Utah, the daughter of Alonzo Alvero & Chloe Elizabeth Ransom Cahoon.  Rhoda was the sixth child.  She was welcomed by siblings Alvin, Wallace, Nellie, Jennie, and Daniel. Rhoda attended Preston High where she met her sweetheart John Dahle Sparrow. John and Rhoda were married January 31, 1941 in Malad, Idaho.  They were later sealed in the Logan Temple.

Rhoda and John resided in Linrose, Idaho where they started their lifelong journey of farming and raising a family, their most precious crop. During this time, they were blessed with a daughter Helen, a son Rick, and a stillborn son Jacob James.  Rhoda and John retired and moved to Glendale, Idaho in 1999.  They were welcomed by a very loving ward and community where they met very special friends. Rhoda loved her home and was a beautiful homemaker.

Rhoda was active in the church and in her community. She held several church positions in the Relief Society, MIA, and Sunday School.  Rhoda was a dedicated visiting teacher and loved to attend the temple. Rhoda served in the community as a softball coach, at the election polls, 4-H, fair and rodeo committees, and a member of the Women’s Posse.

Rhoda loved knitting, sewing, quilting, cooking, gardening, and crocheting. She was an avid sports fan especially to the Utah Jazz. She loved to be by the side of John farming and also sharing a great love for their horses. They enjoyed the flat track horse races and also chariot racing in which they received many honors.

Rhoda’s greatest love was her husband, children, grandchildren and family.  Family traditions on Christmas Eve and cookouts for birthdays were dear to her heart. She is a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother and friend who we will miss until we meet again.

Rhoda is survived by her children: Helen (Roger) Carter, Preston, Idaho; Rick (Tami) Sparrow, North Logan, Utah, Grandchildren Michael (Aleta) Phillips, Linrose, Idaho, Kymberlee Julander, Bear River City, Utah, K’Lynne (Ryan) Gardner, Honeyville, Utah, Kalee Anne (Russell) Bair, Mink Creek , Idaho, Kamille (Travis) Kunz, Preston, Idaho, Brayden (Stacee) Sparrow, Smithfield, Utah, Cameron (Reesa) Sparrow, Richmond, Utah; 18 great-grandchildren, six great –great  grandchildren and extended family members.

Rhoda was preceded in death by her spouse John, a stillborn son Jacob James, her parents, siblings, in-laws, grandson Shawn Jensen, and special nephew Bud Stevenson.  The family would like to thank Dr. David Faux, Dr. Corey Walker, Logan Regional Hospital, IHC Hospice and to all family, friends and caregivers of our special loved one.
