Rhea Lue Frandsen Leonard, 78 of Preston, Idaho, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, August 21, 2014. Rhea was born in Mt. Pleasant, Utah to Art Leland Frandsen and Mary Alice Arnoldsen on her mother’s 33rd birthday-August 23, 1935. She was welcomed to the family by two older sisters. She grew up in Moroni, Taylorsville, and Riverton. Her father passed away early and her mother remarried William (Bill)Cardwell.
She started a cosmetology course in Salt Lake City and met Jack Arthur Leonard. They were married December 30th, 1952. They had their first baby boy, Jackie Ray, who died only 2 days later. They had two more children, Jeffrey Steven and Polly Sue, born just one year apart. Their family lived in Riverton, Preston, Idaho Falls, Shelley, Preston, Richmond, and settled again in Preston after Jack’s retirement.
Rhea was a well-known beautician in town. She loved her weekly visits and friendships with “her ladies”. Rhea was a skilled seamstress and could make anything out of a piece of fabric. She has crafted hundreds of quilts. She was a master in the kitchen and served delicious meals-even making Jack’s venison taste “gourmet”. Her hot, yummy rolls are legendary.
Kind, caring, and compassionate are only a few words that describe her personality and life’s work. She was always ready and willing to care for others. She cherished family time and loved her grandchildren. She enjoyed camping and the outdoors. She looked forward to get-togethers with their many friends from Utah Power and Light. Rhea spoiled her house dogs and the family joke was that they were treated and fed better than her kids. She had a fun and quirky sense of humor, even after her stroke, and laughed at herself often.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jack Leonard, Preston; Jeff Leonard (Jenni), Preston; Polly (Paul) Flatt, Nampa; sisters, Joy (Bud) Clements, Richland, WA and Floetta Bowers of Laverkin, UT. Surviving grandchildren are: Melissa Leonard, Ogden, UT; Tyra (Brock) Williamson, Farmington, UT; Kelsey (Brandon) Muir, Smithfield, UT; Jake Leonard, Wellsville, UT; Stacy Flatt, Boise, ID; Jessica Heitzinger, Nampa, ID. She is also survived by her nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Jackie Ray; parents and step-father; brother, Leland Frandsen; and a great-grandson, Dax Williamson.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Webb Funeral Home 1005 South 800 East in Preston. A viewing will be held Monday from 9:30-10:30 also at the funeral home.
