Rex Mark Checketts

Preston, Idaho - - - Rex M. Checketts

Preston - Rex Mark Checketts, 69, passed away August 17, 2012 in Preston, Idaho. He was born December 3, 1942 in Logan, Utah to Mark Leslie Checketts and Evelyn Hansen. He served in the US Army in 1965, spending most of his time in Vietnam. Rex married Patricia (Trish) Sparks on October 23, 1970 in the Logan LDS Temple. Rex and Trish had two children Shane Rex and Kelly Ann Checketts. Rex and Trish participated in the LDS Indian Placement program for ten years fostering a daughter Joanne Ignacio for two years and a son Theodore Herrera for eight years.

Rex worked as a mechanic all his life. He was able to look at a machine for a while and just know how it functioned. He could take apart anything and fix it. He could even fix broken things that someone else had taken apart. He served as an equipment mechanic for Utah Power and Light for thirty years. He was a very involved father with his children. he taught them to work by working with them. He taught them mechanics, gardening, building, repairs, and many more things. Throughout his life the most important lesson he taught them was integrity. Being true to your word and honest in all your dealings was something he taught in word, but mostly he taught it by example.

Serving others and taking care of others was something he did without thinking about it. He served in two bishoprics, many scouting callings, and was currently serving as counselor in the Legacy One Branch Presidency. He loved taking the kids camping and riding four wheelers in the mountains. When the grandchildren came, he loved taking them for four wheeler rides. Spending time with his family made him very happy.

He is survived by his wife Trish, of Preston; his son Shane (Wendy) of Warsaw, IN; and daughter Kelly Ann (Jeremy) of Pocatello, ID; He is also survived by three brothers Darrel (Roselle) Checketts, Nile (Barbara) Checketts, and Larry (Cindy) Checketts, all of Preston. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his father-in-law.
