Thatcher, Idaho - Relda Ane Smith McGregor passed through the veil peacefully on Sunday, September 8, following a valiant nine month battle with multiple myeloma. Relda was born on January 28, 1929, at the family home in Riverdale, Idaho. She was the sixth of eight children born to Samuel Line and Minnie Hansen Smith. Her childhood was spent on the family farm, raising watermelons, riding derrick horse, and learning to love the outdoors. She received her schooling in Riverdale and Preston, and then attended Utah State Agricultural College.
She married her longtime friend, Charles Robert McGregor, on August 30, 1950, in the Logan LDS temple. Four children were born to this union. Life took them on many adventures over the years as they lived in Idaho, Texas, California, Utah, Wyoming, and finally back to Idaho again. She cherished the years the family spent running the GP Bar dude ranch on the Green River Lakes in Wyoming, and also the many summers she and Bob later spent on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho. She was at her happiest when she was outdoors, either fishing or on horseback. She enjoyed sharing her love of nature with her children and grandchildren.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all her life, and served diligently in all auxiliaries. She took great pride in her garden, and always went into winter with a storeroom full of home-canned produce. We will all miss her chokecherry syrup. She was always willing to give a haircut to anyone who needed one, and will be remembered fondly for her kindness and generosity.
Relda is survived by her husband, Bob, and children Todd (Debbie), Jon (Lara), Kathy (Scott) Jones, and daughter-in-law Melanie McGregor. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and her oldest sister, Odessa McGregor. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kristie Ane, her parents, brothers Hugo, Dean, Theo, and David, and sisters Joyce and Opal McKay.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 14, at 11:00 a.m., in the Thatcher/Niter, Idaho LDS chapel, 2060 Niter Bench Road, Niter (Grace), Idaho. A viewing will be held on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 at the church. Interment will be in the Thatcher Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Webb Mortuary of Preston, Idaho.
