Preston - Rachel Bingham Miles Simmonds, age 91, died August 12, 2011 at the Heritage Home in Preston, Idaho. She was born April 29, 1920 in Cornish, Utah, to James and Mary Jane Price Bingham. Rachel was raised in Cornish and graduated from North Cache High School. She married Delbert Richard Miles on September 25, 1940 in the Logan LDS Temple. He passed away November 1, 1972. Rachel married Dale George Simmonds on December 28, 1979 in Elko, Nevada. He passed away February 1, 1990. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she taught the Beehive Class and was a speech and drama director. -
Rachel was a homemaker and worked for J. C. Penny's for 20 years. She was a terrific cook and one of her favorite things to do was to read her large collection of recipe books and try out the ones that sounded good to her. Rachel loved to camp, fish, and hunt. In her later years she loved to take rides through Weston Canyon with her friend Juan, where as a young girl, she spent many summers at the family cabin. She was a caring, loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grand mother and friend.
Rachel is survived by her daughter Kay Miles Condie (Keith), Idaho Falls, Idaho, brother Darwin William Bingham (Dena) Smithfield, Utah, 4 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and a long time friend Juan Garza. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, son Richard B Miles, sisters June Morrison, Anna Maria Miles, Lorraine Harmer, Vadis Feller and Gay Cazier, and brother James Bingham, Jr.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at 12:00 noon at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East in Preston, Idaho. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Smithfield Cemetery.
