Our beautiful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother got her birthday wish and passed away peacefully in time to celebrate their shared birthday together with her sweetheart on March 14, 2025, surrounded by family at her daughter’s home in Thatcher, Idaho.
Pauline Palmer Lindhardt was born March 15, 1932. The first born to Elmer Smith and Violetter Elizabeth Paskins Palmer followed by five perfect younger brothers. Mom had an ideal childhood growing up on the family farm on the North side of Preston. She learned the value of hard work and the importance of family and education.
She graduated from Preston High School in 1950 and worked the next two years as a telephone operator to save money to further her education at BYU. Her plans to pursue nursing were derailed when she was asked to teach at the Oneida Station in their one room schoolhouse for the families at the power plant. She had 8 students ranging from 1st to 5th grade. Finding her passion in teaching she changed her major to Elementary Education and graduated from BYU in 1957.
Returning to Preston, she accepted a teaching position to teach 4th grade at the Jefferson school. A blind date early in the summer of 1958 introduced her to the man who would become her eternal companion. On 24 June 1960 she married Robert Emmett Lindhardt in the Logan LDS temple. She continued to teach for one year after their marriage before they were blessed with 3 sons and 5 daughters to raise on the family dairy farm in Winder, Idaho. She continued using her education by being a mother and homemaker and teaching her children. This brought her immense joy. Mom was an amazing cook and shared her talent by making sure no one ever left her home hungry. She will be fondly remembered for her many dishes, especially her potato salad and rice pudding.
Mom was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving faithfully in many callings in the church. She had a strong testimony of the Gospel and loved to share her testimony in ways of service. One of her favorite callings was boy scout leader and shared with them her love of fishing. Mom loved the outdoors and took great pride in her yard and her beautiful flowers.
She is survived by her children Mary (Bob) Nelson, of Pocatello, ID; Colleen (Charles) Hobson, of North Logan, Ut; Peggy (Eric) Pierson of Logan, UT; Eric (Lachelle) Lindhardt of Preston, ID; Sara (Darwin) McKee of Saratoga Springs, UT; Karen (Carl) Wheeler of Thatcher, ID; Mark (Lana) Lindhardt St. George, UT. 29 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren with 7 more expected this summer; her brother, Joel (Lois) Palmer currently serving an LDS mission in Houston, TX and a foster daughter Tilda Woody of New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her sweetheart Bob, her parents, her brothers, LaVar, Hal, John, and Dan. Her son Scott, a daughter-in-law Oleta, a granddaughter Hannah Pierson, and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the Winder LDS Chapel, 4400 North 1600 West in Preston with Bishop Travis Talbot conducting.
