Preston - We are saddened by the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Dr. Orson L. Bowler, 78, passed away Tuesday morning, January 12, 2010 in Centerville, Utah after heart surgery. He was born December, 17, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Orson Cutler Bowler and Sarah Helen Myers Lloyd.
He graduated from Grace High School in 1950 and spent most of his life in Idaho. He received a Bachelor of Science degree and a Doctorate degree from the University of Utah in Education, and a Masters degree from the University of Idaho. He served an LDS mission in England from 1956-58 in the British Mission. He also served in the army as an x-ray technician. He was the Superintendent of schools in the Teton School District for two years and for 26 years in the Preston School District.
He married the love of his life, Janice R. Wilde, in the Logan Temple on June 8, 1960. They served additional missions together on Temple Square and in the California Carlsbad Mission. Together they raised five children, Suzanne (Dan) Dixon, Janalyn (Dennis) Austin, Orson Paul (Heidi) Bowler, Matthew (Adrielle) Bowler, and David (Linda) Bowler. He is survived by his brother, Walter Rosdahl, his children, and 16 grandchildren.
Dad lived his life with integrity privately and publicly. He lived the principles that he taught and he was a man of honor and respect. The family will remember him for his kindness, gentleness, and goodness to everyone. He greatly valued education, learning, and serving. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving in stake and ward auxiliaries and as bishop of the Preston Eighth Ward.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 16, 2010 at the Preston 8th Ward Chapel, 2nd East and 2nd South at 11:00 am. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at Webb Funeral Home, 109 E. Oneida, Preston and Saturday from 9:30-10:45 am at the church. Interment will be in the Central Cemetery near Grace, Idaho with graveside military honors at 1:30 pm. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.webbmortuary.com
