Cove, Utah - - - Odeen R. Andersen
Cove - Odeen Ransom Andersen, 81, returned to his Father in Heaven and into the arms of his waiting family on Sept. 24, 2009.
He was born in Tremonton, Utah on Jan. 18, 1928 to Elvira Ransom Andersen and Andrew Frederick Andersen. He was the 12th of 15 children. He attended school in Preston, Lewiston, and North Cache in Richmond. He joined the Navy in March of 1949 at the age of 17 to fight in World War II. He finished his military service with a 12-month tour of duty on the island of Guam. Upon his return from the military, he completed a year at BYU, after which he served a 2 year LDS mission in Denmark.
Odeen married LaZelle Matkin, of Swan Lake, Idaho on Jan. 19, 1953 in the Logan, Utah Temple. Together they raised four children. He began employment with Utah Power and Light in 1954, working various positions there for 29 years: Salesman, Oneida Plant Operator, Estimator, and Planner. He settled his family on the farm in Cove in 1961. He built a new home for his family, completing it in 1975. He was also a master gardener, known for his wonderful raspberries which he shared with friends and neighbors. He was a jack of all trades and could fix anything. He loved horseshoes and a good game of pool.
Odeen and LaZelle served for three years in the Logan Temple. Odeen was called to serve another mission to Denmark in 1991, this time with his sweet wife. He has always been proud of his Danish heritage and returned to Denmark on several occasions to renew friendships and work on genealogy. Odeen and LaZelle enjoyed spending winters in their home in Hurricane where they had many good friends. Odeen had a strong testimony and loved the Lord. He has always been a great example in his dedication to faith and family.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, LaZelle Andersen, and four children, a son Dana (Michelle) of Lehi; son, Vaughn (Susan) of Cove; daughter, Linda (Jim) Keyes of Monticello; and daughter Michele (Shawn) McNinch of West Jordan, 20 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 6 siblings, LaVonna Tibbets, Burley, Idaho; Dorma Meinburg, Boise, Idaho; Wendell Andersen, Texas; Wanda Jensen, Cove; Floyd Andersen, Morgan; and Loyal Andersen, Smithfield.
Funeral services will be held in the Cove Ward chapel on Monday, Sept. 28 at noon. Friends and family may visit on Sunday, Sept. 27 from 6-8 p.m. at the Cove Ward church, and prior to the service on Monday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Richmond Cemetery.
