Norman Allen Ricks

Preston, ID - - - NORMAN ALLEN RICKS

Preston - It is hard to say how we will be remembered, but it is certain we want to end up better each day. Our husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, Norm Ricks sought constantly to be a better person as his life, which ended peacefully on October 20, 2009, progressed. Norm was born in Benson, Utah to Joseph Allen and Idella Hannah Thompson Ricks on April 20, 1925. He worked hard on his father's farm, served in World War II, and graduated from USU with a Bachelor's in business.

Only July 1, 1949, he married LaRee Baxter Ricks, and they were later sealed in the Logan LDS temple. Over the years and through the struggles, they fell truly in love until they were temporarily separated by LaRee's death in 1998. Together they raised four children. Norman married Betty Jean Seamons on August 21, 1999, and they have enjoyed many great times together over the last ten years.

Norm was very persistent! He worked hard in life as an accountant, insurance agent, and Rotary Club member. He refused to retire until he was 83; but his persistence is perhaps best illustrated by his determined fight against Parkinson's disease for more than two decades.

He loved to fish, spend time with family, and watch the Utah Jazz or Aggie Football. He delighted in his grandchildren and great grand children. Keeping a tidy desk, honorable credit and a healthy yard and garden were important to him. He served faithfully in many callings in the LDS Church over his lifetime. His pleasant demeanor was punctuated with humor and a ready smile.

He is survived by his wife Betty, 3 daughters: Marsha Kaufman of Preston, ID, Nancy (Ken) Stout of Newdale, ID, and Paula (Jay) Critchlow of Sandy, UT; a son: Lon Norman (Beverly) Ricks of Newdale, ID; 5 step children: Peggy, Tony, Debra, Warren, and Brian; and a brother: Reed T. Ricks of St. George, UT. His posterity includes 32 grand children and great grand children, and he has over 30 step grand children and great grand children. Norman was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Farrell Dean Ricks and William Max Ricks; a sister: Lorraine Ricks Hawkins; his first wife: LaRee Baxter Ricks and a grandson: Jeremy Lon Ricks.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 12:00 noon in the Preston 3rd Ward LDS Chapel on 155 North, 2nd West in Preston, Idaho. A viewing will be held Friday, October 23 at Webb Funeral Home at 109 East Oneida, Preston, Idaho from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the church. The interment will follow at the Preston Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.webbmortuary.com.
