Norma Merrill

Norma Murdock Merrill, 91, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Terrace Grove Assisted Living in Logan, Utah. She  was born on December 16, 1926, in Dayton, Idaho, to Theodore Robert and Myrtle Roper Murdock. Growing up during the depression years, she was a beautiful blonde-haired child.  She was joined by her bothers Suel Jack, Roland Gene and Theo Milford.  Despite hardships, like the family home burning down when she was five-years-old, she felt rich in love and never deprived.  She was a loving and grateful daughter.  She maintained a close relationship with her parents, caring for them throughout their lives.

She attended Dayton Elementary and Weston High School, and studied at Utah State University. Service was her life.  She served as Farm Bureau Community Chairwoman, on the Franklin County Women's Homemaking Council, as Weston Grade School PTA President (where she canned peaches for the Weston school lunch program), as the FHA Chapter Mother for West Side High School and  Idaho State Chapters, and as a Pink Lady for the Franklin County Medical Center.  Mom and Dad delivered Meals on Wheels and were chosen as the Lamplighters for the Preston City Festival of Lights.

They created and maintained the soldiers and stars that lined the streets of Preston for the Christmas season.

She served in all of the Church auxiliaries, but especially loved Relief Society where she taught lessons, served as work director, as a counselor, and as the president.  She also served as the compassionate service leader.

She met the love of her life, Lyman Merrill, in the 9th grade, and they were married on July 21, 1947, in the Logan LDS Temple. Six children were  born to this union: Tedra Gae  (Mack) Balls, Jill Launa (Charlie) Moore, Meridee (Michael) McDermott, and Mollie Elizabeth Larson. She is also survived four children, by five grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and two sisters-in-law, Gae Murdock and Suelyn Murdock.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two children, Jon Murdock and Lurayne, and her three brothers

She has resided at Terrace Grove Assisted Living Center since the death of her husband in 2013. We extend our love and appreciation to all the care-givers and residents of the Grove for making this such a loving home in her last years.
