Our beloved mother, grandmother and friend, Noma Smith Hansen Lewis, 89, former Fairview, Idaho resident, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2014 under the compassionate care of Caring Hearts Assisted Living Center. She will be truly missed, but always remembered by her family and all those whose hearts she touched.
Noma was born on June 28, 1925 in Fairview, Idaho. She was the second child born to Ernest and Hazel Smith. She grew up in Fairview on the family farm. As a child she loved playing softball and riding horses. A fond memory of hers was listening to the Utah Jazz game on the radio with her mother. She attended school in a four-room schoolhouse with two grades in each room. After the 8th grade she then went to Preston High School. Noma married Melvin Hansen on November 24, 1944 in the Logan LDS Temple. During her early married years she was a serviceman’s wife as Melvin was in the U.S. Army and in World War II was stationed in Hawaii. After the war they made their home in Preston, Idaho.
Noma was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She loved visiting with members of the church, neighbors, friends and family. She especially savored spending time with her family and adoring her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Noma liked crafts and making quilts for her loved ones. She also enjoyed traveling, dancing and bowling. She and Melvin were dance directors in their ward. She was loved and respected for her hard work by family and friends.
Noma was preceded in death by her husband’s Melvin Hansen, Paul Allen and Clyde Lewis, two siblings Curtis Smith and Eva Cahoon, son-in-law Norman Allen and her parents. Noma is survived by her three daughters Judy (Dale) Almond (Pocatello, ID), Gerry Allen (Pocatello, ID) and Paulette (Tony) Love (Swan Lake, MT), nine grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The family expresses their thanks for their kind care provided by Cottonwood Cove, Caring Hearts, Encompass Home Health and Hospice and Webb Funeral Home.
