Murray C Nichols

Murray C Nichols passed away in Preston, Idaho on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at the age of 94. He will be remembered for his great love of life and his magnetic personality.

Murray was born October 1, 1929 to Cloy and Irma (Christiansen) Nichols in the small farming community of Thornton, Idaho. He was the second of four children. At the age of eight, his life changed when his father tragically died. His mother moved the small family to Hyrum, Utah, where Murray graduated from South Cache High School.

After serving a mission in South Africa for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Murray married Rose Marie Wright, his elementary school sweetheart, September 11, 1953 in the Logan LDS Temple. He and Rose Marie raised their six children in Preston, Idaho, where he had a busy dental practice for 35 years. He gave a life of service to his family, his church, and the community, including the Preston School Board, Preston City Council, and Franklin County Search and Rescue.

Murray loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. Possessing a strong work ethic, Murray was usually found on a massive lawn mower as he created and maintained a haven for his family at Glendale reservoir. He successfully encouraged family to frequently gather and enjoy the beautiful fruits of his labors at Glendale. Murray is fondly remembered for his wisdom, his astonishing memory, and his many accomplishments. He was a life-long learner and an excellent storyteller. Murray left a written legacy of his amazing and adventurous life experiences.

Murray is survived by his six children; Anna Marie (Dennis) Hauser of Pocatello, Idaho; Janet Barrett of Preston, Idaho; Sharon (Brad) Nilsen of Phoenix, Arizona; Kathryn (Sid) Munk of Amalga, Utah; Diane (Bruce) Woodward of Vineyard, Utah and Brian (Candice) Nichols of Draper, Utah; brother Gene (Tammy).  He is blessed with 26 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

Murray is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rose Marie, his parents, brother Carroll Nichols, sister Vivian Harris, and grandsons Nathan Woodward and Jonathan Barrett.
