Michelle Rea Sturman Sanderson, 60, of Richmond, UT, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning August 6, 2017 in her home after a 25-year fight against a brain tumor. Michelle was born in Long Beach, CA on February 16, 1957 to Roger and Velma Sturman. She married Wayne Gordon Sanderson on October 14, 1983 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Michelle was an active member of the Richmond Utah Stake. She loved teaching and serving the youth. For many years, Michelle served in the scouting program, helping to raise a generation of boys, and receiving the District Award of Merit and Silver Beaver awards. She was trained as a tailor by her mother and grandmother, and worked for many years doing alterations for the Blocks department store. She shared these sewing skills and helped many with their projects. She served her community as chairman of the Richmond City Arts Council and was responsible for bringing many art programs to the local schools. Her pride and joy was the many years she served as director of the Richmond City Melodrama. She enjoyed watercolor painting, nature, experimenting with cooking, and had a gift for recognizing when someone was in need.
Michelle is survived by her husband Wayne Sanderson of Richmond, UT; her two sons Dan Sanderson of Provo, UT and Rosen Sanderson of Richmond, UT; her Mother Velma Sturman of Shelley, ID; her three brothers Brent Sturman of Pocatello, ID, Craig Sturman of Ukon, ID, and Joel Sturman of Lehi, Ut; and her sister Kristy Searle of Shelley, ID. She was preceded in death by her father Roger Sturman.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 12:00 noon in the Richmond LDS stake center, 135 West Main Street in Richmond, Utah. A visitation will be held Saturday from 10:00-1130 a.m. at the stake center. Interment will be in the Richmond Cemetery. Michelle’s family wishes to thank the many friends and neighbors who so willingly gave of themselves over the years. Our community will miss Michelle, but rejoices that she can now rest from her many trials. Arrangements are under the direction of Webb Funeral Home in Preston.
