Mervin LeRoy Gifford

Mervin LeRoy Gifford, 77, passed away on Dec. 6, 2013, at McKay- Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah. He was born Oct. 30, 1936, in Springdale, Utah the son of Othell and Margie Johnson Gifford. He married Marjory Ward on Sept. 23, 1960 in the Logan LDS Temple.

He enjoyed sports, yard care, drama and debate. He received an "Excellent Rating" in debate from the State Legislature. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a 3 year mission to the Mexico North Mission. He also served his country in the National Guard from 1959-67. He was a member of the Lion's Club as well.

He received an Associate's Degree from Dixie College and his B.A. and Masters Degree from Brigham Young University. He was a CES teacher and supervisor (co-coordinator) in the Seminary and Institute program for the LDS Church for over 36 years. He enjoyed the wonderful associations over the years

He had many church callings in his life. He served as an Elder's Quorum President, Young Men's President, in the bishopric twice, as Bishop twice, as a high councilor and in the stake presidency twice. He was a Mission President and presided over the Mexico Monterrey South Mission with his wife.

He is survived by his wife, Marjory of Preston; five sons and two daughters, Brent (KayLee) Gifford of Westerville, Ohio; Kenneth O. (Brenda) Gifford of Preston; Kevin (Liz) Gifford of West Valley City, Utah; Annette (Derek) Gandia of Kauai, Hawaii; Sherri Gifford of St. George, Utah; Byron (Jennifer) Gifford of Highland, Utah; and Steven (Bobbie) Gifford of Layton, Utah; by a brother, Delemar Gifford of St. Louis, Missouri and by twenty-nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, by a sister, Leah Whitney; an infant brother, Othell Jr. and by an infant sister, Fawn Gifford.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at noon in the Preston Tenth Ward Chapel, 155 N. 2nd W., Preston, Idaho with Bishop Doug Roper conducting. Friends may call Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East, Preston, Idaho and Wednesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Franklin Idaho Cemetery.
