Merle Peterson Farnes, 93, passed away on June 24, 2013, in Draper, Utah. She was born March 22, 1920, in Preston, Idaho to George C. and Nessie Clayton Peterson. She was raised on the family farm during the great depression. She learned hardships and hard work which built her character.
She graduated from Preston High School where she met her soul mate, Jesse D. Farnes (JD). They were married on Dec. 24, 1941, in Yuma, Arizona. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Utah Temple.
She worked as an office manager and book keeper for various firms. When medical problems took her from the business world, she became a volunteer-leader for the American Cancer Society. She labored for nineteen years for ACS and setting up "Reach for Recovery" in Northern Utah helping many mastectomy patients. After losing her beloved J.D. in 1999, she moved to Salt Lake City for her final years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a brother, Elmo Peterson; a sister, Klea Harris; her dear twin sister, Pearl (Frosty) Hansen and by a grandson, Logan Farnes. She is survived by her sons, Buzz Farnes and Larry (Jennifer) Farnes; by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
