PRESTON, IDAHO MAYNARD GUNTER
PRESTON- Maynard Monroe Gunter, 85, passed away on Jan. 29, 2013, at his home. He was born Oct. 21, 1927, in Portland, Oregon, the son of Maynard Francis and Grace Esmeralda Miller Gunter. He served his country in the US Army from 1946-48. He served an LDS mission to the Southern States Mission.
He married Audrey Marie Heidlebaugh on Aug. 23, 1956, in the Salt Lake Temple. She preceded him in death on July 9, 1964. He married Carolyn Farnes on Dec. 22, 1965, in the Logan Utah Temple. He was a teacher and college professor. He taught at Logan High School and as an Art Professor in Florida, Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa. He also taught early morning seminary in Omaha, Nebraska and art classes for troubled teens. He enjoyed all kinds of art including sculptures, painting, music and theatre. While teaching, he published and exhibited his art- painting, sculpting and poetry. He also loved to ski and swim.
He was a high priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served on the stake high council in Missouri and as a stake missionary.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn of Preston; two daughters and a son, MarLynn (Mike) Carson of Arvada, Colorado; Jill Ann (Charley) Andrews of Westminster, Colorado; Ryan D. (Lonnie) Gunter of Golden, Colorado; and by thirteen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey, by his parents, by a great grandson, Ayden Crumpley and by a brother, Elden Gunter.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. in the Preston 3/10th Ward Building, 155 N. 2nd W., Preston, Idaho with Bishop Tom Madsen conducting. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the church and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. also at the church. Interment will be in the Preston Cemetery.
