Max J Coburn

Max J Coburn, 91, passed away peacefully on the morning of the 4th of July in Preston. He was born June 17, 1922 to George Albert and Lottie Phillips Coburn in Dayton, Idaho. He graduated from Weston High School in 1941. He was drafted into the US Army on Nov. 24, 1944 and served until Aug. 27, 1946 where he spent much of his time in the Philippines during World War II.

He married Darlene Oliverson on March 28, 1948 in Preston, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Utah Temple on March 22, 1962. Max grew up on a farm in Dayton where he learned to farm with his two favorite horses, Babe and Chub. They later sold the horses and started farming with tractors. He worked at Thiokol in Tremonton and then started to work at Monsanto in Soda Springs. He retired from Monsanto at the age of 73 and then he and Darlene began to travel.

Max served faithfully to fill the baptismal font for the Preston North Stake for nearly twenty years. He took great pride in this and was one that was never late or missed an assignment. At the time it was an older type font and had to be done just right to get everything to work. He came to think that he was the only one that could do it correctly which was pretty much true.

Darlene preceded him in death on Jan. 22, 2007. He was also preceded in death by a son, Kim J Coburn and by four brothers and one sister. He is survived by his children, Randy (Vicki) Coburn; Vickie (Curtis) Henderson; Calleen (Grant) Christlieb; Kathy (Curtis) Lowe and by nineteen grandchildren and thirty-three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Preston North Stake Center, 310 N. State, Preston, with Bishop Jeff Palmer conducting. Friends may call Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 8th East, Preston and Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the stake center. Interment will be in the Whitney, Idaho Cemetery.
