Marion Whitney Morgan August 20 1925-January 29, 2016
Marion Whitney Morgan, age 90 returned to his Heavenly Father’s arms on January 29, 2016. He was born on August 20, 1925 in Weston, Idaho. The son of Ezra Burnath and Myrtle Whitney Morgan. He was raised on the family farm in Weston, Idaho and attended school in Weston, Idaho. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country from May 1944 to June 1946. He had extensive training as a fireman first responder rescue crew and did his training at the (NAS) Naval Air Base in Fallen, Nevada, the San Francisco, and the San Diego, California fire departments. He married his sweetheart Evelyn Checketts in Berkley, California on March 7, 1946. They were sealed for time and all eternity one year later in the Logan, Utah Temple. They were blessed with three children Kirk, Kay and Alan. After Marion was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy they returned home and lived in Preston, Idaho. Marion worked as a fireman and as a deputy for Preston City, and was also a member of the Franklin County Sheriff’s posse for several years. He had a lot of good memories riding horses with the other posse members. When his father passed away in 1954 he left the police department and they moved to Weston to run the family farm and lived there for 50 yrs. They developed many close friendships in the Weston area and the farm was always home to them. In addition to running the farm, Marion worked for Select Sires of Logan, Utah and drove a school bus for the West Side school district for 24 yrs. He always had a special love for children and the bus was a perfect fit for him. He loved to be outdoors and especially loved being in the mountains. He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time camping with family and friends. He loved to cook Dutch oven food and share it with family and friends while telling stories around a good camp fire. One of his other passions in life was his horses. He raised and trained quarter horses for many years, enjoyed showing halter class in the arena, flat track racing in the summer and cutter racing in the winter. He loved to ride his horses in the mountains and did so his entire life. After his age slowed him down he graduated from the big horses to the ponies. He enjoyed hitching up his ponies and taking the grandkids for a ride. Marion and Evelyn moved from Weston back to Preston in 2003 were they currently reside. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints and had a testimony of the gospel and an appreciation for all of God’s work on this Earth.
