Richmond, Utah - - - MARGARET H. POPE
Richmond - Margaret Louise Heward Pope, 92, passed away Friday, January 23, 2009 in Logan, Utah at the Sunshine Terrace. She was born on November 10, 1916 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Johnny Percival and Elsie Marie Burckhart Heward, the fourth of eleven children. Her early years were spent in Wallsburg, Utah. At age thirteen her family moved to Park City, Utah where she graduated from Park City High School in 1935. She met William Reese Pope in 1938 and they were married on December 27, 1939. They raised their family living on farms and ranches in Park City, Utah, Rockland and Arimo, Idaho, and the Big Hole Valley in Montana. They also lived in Orem, Utah, and Upland, California. Their spent their later years in Medicine Lodge, Montana and the last 25 years in Richmond, Utah.
She was a great wife, mother and grandmother and was deeply loved by her family and all who knew her. She had a special love for children and will always be remembered for her stories and poems, and her sense of humor. She had many talents and encouraged her posterity to develop theirs. She loved music and had a beautiful singing voice. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints all of her life and served in many capacities. She was also a long time member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers having ancestors that settled the Salt Lake Valley.
She is survived by her Husband Reese, children, Richard Pope, Lewiston, UT; Diane Briggs (Boyd), of Dillon, MT; Glenn Pope (Patreece), of Provo, UT; Colleen Kay Howe (Dave) of Salt Lake City, UT; 18 grandchildren, 31 great-great grandchildren, sisters Flora Knipfer of Chicago/Burbank, IL; and Elaine Shields (Glen) of Layton, UT. She was preceded in death by her son, Steven Lawrence Pope, her parents, brothers Clyde, Ralph, John, Merrill, Keith, and sisters, Evelyn, Marie and Betty.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in Richmond, Utah at the Richmond 2nd Ward Chapel 150 South 100 East. Friends may call Saturday from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Richmond Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be sent to the family at www.webbmortuary.com.
