Preston - J Marcell Pitcher, 92, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the Franklin County Medical Center in Preston, Idaho. He was born on May 11, 1919 in Cornish, Utah to John Harvey and Rosa Viola Jensen Pitcher. He married Francine Bingham on April 23, 1941 in the Logan LDS Temple.

Marcell loved sports, particularly baseball and he played baseball most of his life. He enjoyed fishing, and singing where he sang in high school operas. He loved traveling and visited many places around the world and spent a lot of time in Mexico. During his travels, he visited all of the Major League Baseball parks in the United States. He served in the US Army in WWII. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission to Denmark, and served as a branch president in Pennsylvania, and in numerous other callings in a bishopric, and teachers. He wrote six books of his life history for his children and grandchildren. He worked many years doing genealogy work. For the last 20 years he and Francine have spent the winters in Mexico where many of his family and friends came to visit. He loved taking them fishing and to church in the Mexican branch.

He is survived by his wife, Francine, of Preston; a son John (Hilary) Pitcher of Cornish, UT; a daughter Dawn (Lyman) Penrod, of Pocatello, ID; a son Rex (Jane) Pitcher, of Preston; a daughter Kristine (Dan) Bingham, of Clearfield, UT; and a son Bart (Joyce) Pitcher, of Preston; 21 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, and a daughter-in-law Tamra Kendall Pitcher, of Cornish, UT; He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Keith, and a sister.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Whitney 2nd Ward Chapel with Bishop Jim Summers conducting. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East, in Preston and Thursday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church in Whitney. Interment will be in the Cornish, Utah cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.webbmortuary.com.
