PRESTON, IDAHO LOYAL HANSEN
PRESTON, ID " Loyal Hansen, 93, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 3, 2012.
Loyal was born on February 9, 1918 in Newdale, Idaho, to Lester Lavon and Letitia (Hunsaker) Hansen, and was the seventh of ten children (all of whom are now deceased). Loyal's family moved to Preston when he was a teenager, and he graduated from Preston High School.
During World War II, Loyal served as the radio/radar man on a B-24 crew in the Naval Air Corps. He served two tours of duty and flew 58 missions, primarily in the Bay of Biscay and the Mediterranean. He achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer, and was awarded five Gold Air Medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
As a businessman, Loyal was the owner of Loyal Hansen Insurance Agency in Preston, which he operated for fifty-four years.
In 1945, Loyal married Mary Buxton in the Logan Temple. They had two children, Jeff and Lori. After Mary's death from a long-term illness, Loyal married Elnora (Fletcher) Palmer in the Logan Temple, and adopted her three children, Sandra, Cydne, and Blake. Loyal and Norrie had two children, Cody and Cheyenne. After Norrie's death, Loyal married Raquel (Peterson) Harris, and developed a great relationship with her three daughters (Kim, Kristen, and Stephanie) and their families.
Loyal is best remembered for his warm smile, kind words, strong faith in the Savior, and a life of service to his church and community. Loyal served two LDS missions, first in Denmark, and later in Florida. He faithfully served as a bishop, and in various other church callings. Over the years he and Norrie sang in more than three thousand funerals, and at numerous weddings and community programs. He was also president of both the Lions and Rotary clubs.
Loyal will be sorely missed by his wife, Raquel, seven children, 22 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at noon in the Whitney Second Ward Chapel with Bishop Jim Summers conducting. Friends may call Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East, Preston, and Monday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the church. Military rites and interment will be in the Preston Cemetery.
