Lorraine Bennett Hawkes, 87, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 25th, 2025, at the Franklin County Medical Center Skilled Nursing Facility in Preston, Idaho. She was born October 25th, 1937 in Cub River, Idaho to Argell Bennett and Beatrice Williams Bennett. During her younger years, her family moved to Clearfield, Utah and Mesa, Arizona before settling in Franklin, Idaho where she lived the rest of her life. She graduated from Preston High School in 1955. She married the love of her life, Jerry Hawkes, on November 4th, 1955, in the Logan Utah Temple. They were married nearly 70 years.
Her life’s work revolved around her family and her faith. Over the years, she worked at ZCMI in Logan, Utah and as a teacher’s aide at the Jefferson Middle School in Preston, Idaho. She served in various positions on the ward and stake level of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, including Ward and Stake Relief Society Presidents. She was a student of the scriptures and American history. She loved to travel and was an avid reader. She taught piano lessons, enjoyed playing the organ and piano and sang in a small group that performed for various events. She loved every moment spent with family and friends. She hosted many gatherings and was an excellent cook.
She and Jerry served a temple mission for 18 months in the Manila Philippines mission and also served as officiators at the Logan Utah Temple.
She is survived by three sons and one daughter; David (Barbara) Hawkes of Franklin, Idaho; Barry(Julie) Hawkes of Franklin, Idaho; Steven(Linda) Hawkes of Henderson, Nevada; Sheila(Mark) Saxton of Harper, Texas; her sister, Diane Bennett Friedli of North Logan, Utah; 17 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to express deepest appreciation to the Franklin County Hospital medical staff, hospice nurses and all those in the skilled nursing facility.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 1st, 12:00 pm at the Franklin Stake Center, 106 East Main Street, Franklin, Idaho. Viewing will also be held that morning, 10:30-11:30 am at the Franklin Stake Center. Interment will be in the Franklin Cemetery.
