WESTON, IDAHO LOIS NIELSEN
WESTON- Lois Elva Spackman Nielsen, 99, passed away on Aug. 16, 2010, in Preston, Idaho. She was born June 21, 1911, in Weston, Idaho to George Orrin Spackman and Ruth Vinna Anderson. Her father died of pneumonia when she was just 17 months of age. Her mother homesteaded a ranch in Downey, Idaho, but the majority of her childhood was spent in Weston, Idaho, where she was close to her maternal grandparents.
She married Clyde Kofoed Nielsen on July 9, 1931, in Logan, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan Temple on March 2, 1945. Clyde and Lois spent their entire married lives farming in Weston. Lois also worked in Archie's Store and at the Weston Post Office. She and Clyde were the parents of three children: Farrell (Coleen) Nielsen, Karen (Bill) Brant and Kathryn (Jim) Egbert.
Lois was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her greatest joy was her family. She loved having them all gathered for family dinners. She especially loved Thanksgiving dinner, but couldn't resist throwing in a bit of Chinese food just for good measure. No one ever left her table hungry.
She was an expert quilter, did lovely handwork, was very interested in genealogy, and loved flowers and flower gardening. She and Clyde loved to travel and spent many happy times traveling with friends and family. She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served wherever she was needed. She especially enjoyed her work in the Young Women's program and as the Relief Society President in the Weston Ward.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde; by her parents, by two sisters, Lorna Winward and Shirley Ruth Shrives, by a brother, Frank Shrives, and by a son-in-law, William Warren Brant. She is survived by her three children, eight grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and by two sisters-in-law, Donna Nielsen and Avis Shrives.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. in the Weston LDS Church with President Lynn Bingham of the Legacy 2nd Branch conducting.
