Alma Leon Hardcastle left this earthly life to be united with family and friends on Sunday January 26, 2014. Leon was born on May 25, 1925 to Alma Glen Hardcastle and Jane Withers. He was blessed with a hard working , honest and stalwart heritage. From this wonderful beginning he learned to survive and prosper in this life.
He grew up in the Riverton and Sandy, Utah area and graduated from Jordan High School in 1944. He participated in track, baseball, and softball and pitched several no-hitters. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and the outdoors, but nost of all he loved his family, friends and people in general. He married his high school sweetheart, Alice Boyce, on April 1 1948. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.
Leon Enjoyed a new adventure in every place he lived in Utah and Idaho. He was a community leader. Leon served as President of the Wasatch County School Board. He also served on many Ag. committees in Idaho. One of his treasured accomplishments was that of the 1990 "Grassman of the Year", a prestigious award given to Leon and Alice.
Leon loved ranching and the care of animals. He was grateful to have had the opportunity to be a rancher most of his life. He loved his profession as a livestock manager. Despite his earthly afflictions and trials, his faith and testimony in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints is reflected in the service that he rendered while serving in the Logan Temple, various ward callings, but most of all by being a loving and faithful Home Teacher. He leaves behind a wonderful legacy as a devoted husband, honored father, respected grandfather, and a forever friend.
Leon is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Alice Boyce Hardcastle. Children: Jeanette (Alan) Bullock, Debra (Mark) Jacobs, Pamela (Robert) Wuthrich, James (Shannan) Hardcastle, Val (Janice) Hardcastle, Jill (Robert) Feller, and Amy (Mark) Parker. 38 Grandchildren 60 Great-grandchildren, a brother, Donald Hardcastle; and a sister, Marjorie (Charles) Boyington. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother William, sister Sarah Reid, brother-in-law Clifford Reid, sister-in-law Pauleen Hardcastle and two grandchildren, Jacob F. Hardcastle and Tara Hardcastle.
"Courage is being scared to death and saddling up anyway". (john Wayne) That's the way Leon lived his life. We love you and we'll miss you, Dad.
Funeral services will be held Saturday February 1, 2014 at 12:00 in the 3rd-10th Ward LDS Church, 155 North 200 West, Preston ID. A viewing will be held Friday night January 31 from 6-8 at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East, in Preston, ID, and Saturday from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the church prior to the services.
