Lee DeRay Cazier

Lee DeRay Cazier, 75, passed away on May 3, 2015 in Logan, Utah. DeRay was born in Preston, Idaho on October 12, 1939 to Willis Ray and Hazel Moser Cazier. He attended grade schools in Downey and Preston, He also attended Preston High School. He enlisted in the Navy on February 21, 1958 where he served until being honorably discharged on February 20, 1962. He received his GED from Idaho while serving in the Navy.

 

He married Judy Kjar on July 15, 1960 in Reno, Nevada. They made their first home in California where their son, Dennis  was born. They then moved to Idaho where Annette was born. They then made their permanent home in Smithfield, Utah where two more daughters, Trina and Katie joined the family.

 

He worked and retired at Del Monte Can Manufacturing Plant where he worked as a line mechanic and an electrician as well as being a jack of all trades.   When something went wrong at the plant he was the one to fix it.  When he retired he began mowing lawns at Birch Creek Golf Course in Smithfield, a position which he thoroughly enjoyed. He looked forward to it every year.

 

He is a member of the American Legion in Smithfield. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in the Smithfield 3rd Ward, he served as a Sunday School greeter in the Junior Sunday School, where all the children loved him. He also was a Cubmaster under two separate bishops.

 

He loved to repair and tinker with various equipments. He showed many acts of service to neighbors and friends by mowing lawns and helping out when needed. He was known for his gruff exterior but when you to got to know him, he was soft hearted.  He was known for his sense of humor. He would do anything to help anyone and never took any credit for what he did.

 

He is survived by his wife, Judy, of 54 years, a son and three daughters: Dennis Cazier of Garden City, Utah; Annette and Terry Maughan of Benson, Utah; Trina and Bruce Whitbeck of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Katie and Brett Gibbons of Lewiston, Utah, 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren with 3 on the way. He is also survived by a brother, Bob and Karleen Cazier of Preston, Idaho and a sister, Pat and Sidney Balls of Wellsville, Utah. He has

 

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Smithfield First, Seventh, and Eleventh ward building at 79 East 200 South in Smithfield, Utah. A viewing will be held on Thursday  from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East in Preston, Idaho and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 at the church. Burial will be in the Smithfield, Utah cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.webbmortuary.com
