Cove, Utah - - - LaZelle M. Andersen
Cove - LaZelle Matkin Andersen, 78, of Cove, Utah, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 21 in Providence, Utah, surrounded by family. LaZelle was born on November 13, 1933 in Swan Lake, Idaho. She was the youngest of 13 children born to George and Julia Matkin. She attended Downey High School where she was a student body officer and prom queen and graduated from West Side High School. She attended BYU and Utah State. She married Odeen Andersen of Cove in 1953 in the Logan Temple and together they raised four children. They lived in Winnemucca, Lava Hot Springs, Vernal, and Preston before settling in Cove in 1961. She worked as an accountant and clerk for Utah Power and Light in the Preston, Smithfield, and Logan offices for 23 years.
She loved pretty clothes and was impeccably dressed down to the high-heeled pumps. LaZelle was an excellent cook and loved to serve second and third helpings to big crowds at family gatherings. Rarely was a meal served in which LaZelle didn't fervently wait on each person sitting around her table. She spent her life nurturing those around her, always concerned with the well-being of others. She was an attentive mother and grandmother who loved to play games, host chocolate milk tea parties, and make candies and cookies. She was a wonderful aunt who loved her nieces and nephews. She made everyone feel special.
LaZelle enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and gardening with Odeen, whom she loved for their 56 years of marriage. They served together as workers in the Logan Temple and as missionaries to the people of Denmark, where she shared the testimony of Jesus Christ that she valued so dear. She took every opportunity to share that testimony with her children and grandchildren. Her example of service and love will forever benefit the lives of those she touched.
LaZelle is survived by her four children, Dana Andersen, Lehi, Vaughn (Susan) Andersen , Cove, Linda (Jim) Keyes, Monticello, and Michele (Shawn) McNinch, West Jordan; brother George O. Matkin, sisters Blanche (Ray) Hoggan Hadley, Annie Stone, and Eloise (Sam) Wyrouck; 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Odeen who passed away September 24, 2009, and siblings Bert Matkin, Hilda Leavitt, Andrew Matkin, Leota Harris, Annie Stone, Fenton Matkin, and LaVar Matkin.
