LaRue Millard Kendall Hunt

LaRue Millard Kendall Hunt, 86, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2014 in Preston, Idaho. LaRue was born March 26, 1928 in Cokeville, Wyoming. She was one of two sets of twins, seventh of eight children born to William Edwin and Ethel Julian Millard Kendall. Her family moved to Preston in search of new employment on her second birthday and she was raised in Preston. As a young child living through the depression she remembered working hard, finding time for play, never accepting charity, and never feeling poor though times were hard for everyone. She loved styling her twin sister's hair. Her life was spared as a child in a cave-in accident when she honored a prompting from the Holy Ghost.

She married Richard Merlin Hunt September 17, 1947 when he returned from service in the Navy in WWII. They designed and built their home, relying on the help and expertise of contractors, but doing the work themselves. If someone said it couldn't be done " they would find a way to do it.

Her church service included President of the Relief Society, Young Women, and Primary. She served as a teacher, counselor, in stake callings, taught countless classes, and loved teaching the 11 years old boys. She served with her husband in three Stake Missions and for 13 years in the Logan Temple.

She spent most of her life enjoying being a homemaker. She was an excellent seamstress, sewing 5 wedding dresses including her own. Her children loved to show her clothes in a store, pick out fabric they preferred, and then watch their imagined outfits become real. She sewed nearly everything for her young family, and often sewed for extended family and neighbors never accepting payment. She hand-pieced quilts, crocheted, and baked. On occasion she was employed at Kings, Del Monte, and worked for a year at the Preston Post Office when her husband was laid up from a deer hunting accident. After being told she only had six weeks to live, she battled cancer and survived another 36 years, attributing the miracle to a Priesthood Blessing.

She was an inspiring parent and grandparent, taking time for each child and treating them according to their unique personalities. She would do anything for her children, but taught them to be independent, hard workers. She had clever sayings and stories to make a point and focused her entire life on teaching and raising her children. Her grandchildren have fond memories of pumpkin cookies, sleepovers, playing with grandpa while grandma cooked something good to eat, her pretty table cloths and place mats, her hugs, and her sweet laugh.

She is survived by her husband Richard, their five children and spouses, Lynn and Michelle Hunt of St. George, UT, LaRee and Val Westover of Clifton, ID, Debbie and Stan Peters of Orem, UT, Daryl and LeAnn Hunt of Gilbert, AZ and Angela and Doug Larsen of Preston; 28 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren with three more on the way; and siblings Grace Veibell, Conna Klippert, and Donna Sharp. Four siblings preceded her in passing: Leland, Ve Lear (Edna), Carroll, and her twin, LaRae Coombs.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Preston South Stake Center, 55 East 100 South in Preston with Bishop Doug Larsen conducting. A viewing will be held on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East in Preston and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the stake center. Interment will be in the Preston Cemetery.
