Kurtland Perkins Matkin, 71, passed away on August 29, 2022. He was born in Preston, Idaho on March 4, 1951, along with his twin brother Conrad to LaVar and Walene Perkins Matkin. His family lived in various places while he was growing up and he, along with his siblings, had to change schools often. Kurt graduated from Wendell high school in 1969. After high school he joined the Navy and was stationed in Hawaii. He was a true original. He loved living life and did it on his terms; how he wanted and without excuses. He loved being free in the wind on his motorcycle. He worked as a welder living in the Lewiston/Clarkston area and traveled to many different job sites across the country. He was very talented in this field. His knowledge and skills blessed many and retired from the Millwright Union. After the majority of his working career was over, he moved to Buhl, ID and was able to help care for his parents. He loved to garden and did what would normally require a few people to take care of. It truly was amazing. He grew enough for many families and made several stops at the food pantry each growing season. After learning to fish he enjoyed his time on the water and smoking and sharing his fish. Kurt never wanted an audience and did this expecting nothing in return. He took great pleasure and pride in embracing his Heavenly Father and having that connection and strength in his testimony. He liked putting together puzzles and had a talent in finishing woodwork. He loved family history work and kept good records and took great care preserving the things that were in his charge. He loved serving others in his church callings and had some very close friends in Buhl and Lewiston. Kurt also really loved spending time in the Temple for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day saints. He truly lived by the quote "When you wake up in the morning it's not just another day, it's a chance at life, another opportunity to challenge yourself to become better. Be grateful for every sunset because every day is a blessing.”
He is survived by his best friend and twin brother Conrad (Terry) Matkin; nieces & nephews: Nicholas Berg, Lucas Berg, Jennifer Berg, Roxanne Freeman, Brent Matkin, Devan Matkin as well as great nieces and nephews that he adored.
He is preceded in death by his Father La Var Matkin; mother Walene Matkin, sister Walene Matkin II; brother, Melvin Matkin; sister Geraldene Berg.
