Kent Arnold Pester, known affectionately as Papa by his grandkids, passed away on January 28, 2025, at the age of 77. He was born on April 30, 1947, in Loup City, Nebraska, and most recently resided in Preston, Idaho. During his high school years, Kent was a basketball star, earning the nickname “Dunk It Pester” for his impressive leaps on the court. After graduating, he proudly served in the United States Army for two years, stationed in Germany, where he drove a tank. Following his honorable service, he built a distinguished career as a superintendent in underground construction, notably supervising the building of the Washington, D.C., Metro system.
A man of many passions, Kent enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed collecting and restoring antique toys and John Deere tractors. He was also deeply devoted to his family—teaching his five daughters how to fish and shoot and never missed a chance to spend time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and his beloved dog, Ruby. Whether tinkering in his shop or listening to Garth Brooks, Kent always lived life with enthusiasm and warmth. Known for his generosity, he would gladly give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He also took great pride in maintaining an immaculate yard, which became the hallmark of his home and a reflection of his dedication to hard work.
Kent was married to his wife, Shauna, for 55 wonderful years. Together, they raised five daughters: Tammy (Richard) Castellanos of Stockton, CA; Kristi (Marcel) Mojalli of Linden, CA; Katie (Kenneth) Hansen of Linden, CA; Megan (Jeremy) Edens of Stockton, CA; and Shauna (Shawn) Forgaard of Temecula, CA. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, two great-granddaughters, and two brothers, Steve (Donna) Pester of Oakdale, CA, and Scott (Lisa) Pester of Woodland, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ruby Pester, his sister, Yvonne Haught, and by his grandson, Zachary Pester.
Kent’s legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. In honor of Kent’s love for Boy’s Town of Nebraska, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to this organization. Kent’s compassionate heart, adventurous spirit, and lifelong dedication to those around him will remain an enduring testament to a life well-lived.
